What To Expect

The first thing you need to do is expect a roller coaster of emotions. Sending your child off to college is a bittersweet moment, and you're going to feel a range of emotions in the weeks and months leading up to their departure. Just be prepared for it and know that it's normal to feel this way.

Stay Connected

While your child is away at college, it's essential to stay connected with them. Make sure you have a way to keep in touch- whether through phone calls, texts, or emails- and be sure to communicate often. This will help keep the lines of communication open and will help you stay connected with your child during this time.

Offer Help and Support

As your child starts this new chapter in their life, offer them help and support along the way. Whether it's helping them move into their college dorm or offering advice on adjusting to college life,  remind them that you're always there for support.

Be Proud

Lastly, be proud of your child! They've accomplished so much and they're about to embark on an exciting new journey. This is a time to celebrate their achievements and to be proud of the person they've become. So take a deep breath, enjoy this moment, and be proud of your child!

Preparing for College

As your child prepares to go off to college, there are a few things you'll need to get ready. Here are a few tips on what to prepare for:

1. Make sure they have everything they need for college

This includes items like laptops, textbooks and dorm supplies. Help them pack everything they'll need and ensure they have essentials before leaving for college. If you are privileged to have bought them a car for college, make sure you have car insurance for new drivers that caters specifically to them.

2. Assist them with their finances

College can be expensive, so be sure to help your child budget their money and understand the financial aid process. This will help them stay on top of their finances and avoid unnecessary debt.

3. Celebrate their achievements

Lastly, take the time to celebrate your child's accomplishments! They've worked hard to get where they are, and they deserve to be celebrated. So throw a party, take them on a celebratory trip or enjoy a fun dinner together.

Adjusting To Life Without Your Child At Home

It can be challenging to adjust to life without your child at home. The house feels empty and quiet, and it's hard to get used to the new normal. So here are two great tips to keep in mind when you are trying to adjust:

Find a New Hobby or Activity

Once you've had some time to adapt, find a new hobby or activity to fill your time. This can help take your mind off of your empty nest and give you something else to focus on.

Focus on the Positive

Lastly, try to focus on the positive aspects of your child being away at college. They're embarking on an exciting new journey and learning so much! So instead of dwelling on the negative, try to focus on the positive and just be proud of your child.

The Future

The future is a blank slate, and anything is possible. So as your child starts their journey in college, be sure to support them every step of the way. Help them set goals and work towards achieving them, and be there to celebrate their accomplishments. They're embarking on a new chapter in their life, and you'll be proud to see what they achieve.
