8 Must-Have Items for Summer: Outdoor Toys, Snacks and More!

Friday, August 5, 2022
Summer is my favorite time of year, and I always love the cute products, toys and gear that debut each season. I've gathered some of my favorites to share with you in my Must-Have List of Summer Items!

Disclosure: I am a member of the Amazon LLC program and this post contains affiliate links. But that doesn't change my opinion of them. I wouldn't recommend products to you that I didn't love myself!

My fun summer picks are good choices every year, so be sure to Pin this post for later!

1. Wicked Big Sports: Shuffle Toss

Wicked Big makes an entire line of these awesome over-sized toys for outdoor fun. Shuffle Toss was my favorite since it was kind of a cross between shuffleboard and corn hole. High quality and durable, this giant board is 6 feet long but folds up into a convenient carry case. It comes with bean bags and is perfect for outdoor picnics, Field Days, class parties, you name it! If Shuffle Toss isn't your thing, check out their Wicked Big Football, Wicked Big Kickball or Wicked Big Washer Toss just to name a few! I also featured them in my post over at The Toy Insider - 6 Educational Uses for Outdoor Toys.

2. Sticky Lickits

Do you have a picky eater at home? You'll love Sticky Lickits, the stickers you can eat! Use these fun food items to entice picky eaters to try new vegetables and fruits. You can stick 'em on pretty much anything just for fun. Plus they come with fun character designs, too, like Sponge Bob and Paw Patrol. They're also fun to just stick right on your tongue, if you ask me! 😉 They don't really have any flavor, at least I don't think so. The fun is just in being able to eat them. You can find them on Amazon or on the Sticky Lickits website.

3. Hand2Mind Stem at Play Kits

Sadly, there will be rainy days this summer, too. But never fear! Check out these fun STEM kits from Hand2Mind! Kids can experiment with kits like Fizz, Boom, and Launch, among many other titles. They're fun indoors or out (actually, some of these are perfect for outdoors!), and kids can keep their education going all summer long.

4. Para'kito Mosquito Repellent Wrist Bands

Mosquitoes love me. It's almost ridiculous. I could cover every inch of my body and they will bite the only exposed place they can find (i.e, an earlobe, an elbow, my chin, my eyelid!!). About the only thing that truly works for me is Deep Woods OFF, and unfortunately, that's not something most people want to spray on their children (although I wouldn't judge you of you did, I'm just sayin'). Para'kito Wrist Bands are a nice alternative. They are stylish, comfortable, cute and come in a variety of patterns and colors (they make them for both adults and children- I was actually sent a child's band to try out and I wore it on my own wrist, which happens to be freakishly small so it worked for me). I wore the band outside while weeding the garden and didn't sustain any bites, so it's worth a shot! The only downside is that it does have a strong citronella-type smell. If this is bothersome, you can wear the band on your ankle instead (it's a velcro wrap closure). The whole product is DEET free and uses all natural oils. There's a little diffuser-type thingie that releases the oils for up to 15 days while you wear it, and it's replaceable. The band came with two cartridges. You can find them on Amazon.

5. Cacao Vita Coffee and Cacao Granola

When you need a little pick-me-up this summer, be sure to check out Cacao Vita's coffee and cacao granola. It's yummy for breakfast, added to ice cream or yogurt, or just eaten with a spoon. It contains coconut water for sweetness, cocoa nibs, cocoa, chocolate and single-origin specialty coffee. It comes in flavors like peanut butter, java chip and coconut cashew. You can find some flavors on Amazon, or order directly through Cacao Vita's website. You can also use their store locator tool to find them at a location near you (they are now available in Wegman's!). **Cacao Vita also just launched a Kickstarter campaign! You can find it here.

6. Dash Mini Waffle Maker

I love this little waffle maker for so many reasons. It comes in a variety of fun colors, it's tiny and cute, it's affordable, it's easy to store, and it makes the perfect mini waffle! It's especially awesome for summer- I just keep some waffle mix in the fridge and use it to make these mini waffles in the morning. I love it. Makes a CUTE gift, too, right?? You can find them right here on Amazon, and they'll only set ya back about $8.50! You'll pay a little more for the funkier colors, but that's entirely your choice.

7.  Bestway Peacock Pool Float

I actually have the drink holder version of this peacock. He's so cute that we gave him a name (Blueberry) and we've already ordered the larger version. I like him because he's good quality, bright and cheerful looking, and is a float instead of an inner tube (no hole in the middle). How could you NOT want this sweet guy floating around your pool all summer?? You can find this happy peacock on Amazon.

8. Starbucks Mango Dragonfruit Refresher

I am not a Starbucks person. I don't really like coffee very much, so I am not a frequent Starbucks visitor. But I have always loved their Green Tea Lemonade, so I figured I would give this Mango Dragonfruit Refresher a try one morning when I visited with a friend. Now I'm totally obsessed with this drink! It does have a fair amount of sugar, not gonna lie. But it's not an awful amount, considering, and there's caffeine in it, too! Plus, it's such a pretty dragonfruitish color, no?

Be sure to check out some of my other favorite summer picks on Amazon below!
