Plant Nite: Terrarium Making Fun with a Twist

Sunday, August 20, 2017
If you're looking for a unique idea for Date Night, Girls Night Out or just a fun evening with friends, then Plant Nite might be for you! Read on to learn about the terrarium-making evening I spent with friends, and see what we created with succulents.

*Note: I am not sure if Plant Nite is still running since the pandemic. Please try visiting the Plant Nite website and going from there!

Before we begin, here's my usual disclaimer: I was invited by Plant Nite to try a free session in exchange for an honest blog post. But like I always say, I would not promote something that I didn't totally love myself, so rest assured that what I'm telling you here is the truth!

What is Plant Nite?

You might have heard of Plant Nite on social media or seen it on Groupon. Plant Nite is essentially a spin-off of Paint Nite, where participants can visit a participating venue (usually a local bar or restaurant) to create mini terrariums and succulent planters. Drinks, appetizers and lots of laughs are usually mixed in, too (some of the venues include food and drinks in the cost of the ticket, and some of them offer discounts on food and drinks). No artistic ability is needed, no green thumbs. Our Plant Nite leader provided us with everything we needed and gave us clear, simple instructions.

What Do I Do at Plant Nite?

Don't worry if you don't have a green thumb. Don't worry about getting dirty. In fact, just don't worry. Plant Nite was a blast and everything was super easy. We were provided with all the materials we needed, as well as aprons and rubber gloves. There were even printed directions on the table in case we talked too much missed the instructions.

There was even a break time and an area set up where we could see the finished product (in case you're the Pinteresty-sort who likes to plan ahead).

What Can I Make at Plant Nite?

Each venue has a different terrarium, so check out their line-up to see what kind of planter you'd like to make. Succulents are easy to take care of and very hearty, so don't worry about how to take care of it when you're finished (Plant Nite provides instructions on how to do that anyway).

We were given choices of three different succulents for our planters, as well as some cute props to add in (mini plastic dinosaurs, mushrooms and ladybugs!). There were also additional river stones, gravel, lichen/moss and dirt (of course). But each venue is different. At some locations you'll be making glass planters or square ones.

Where Can I Find a Plant Nite Event?

You can find Plant Nite events throughout the country and all around the state of New Jersey. Be sure to check the main Plant Nite website, because I don't know if event nights are still running since the pandemic.

Happy Planting!!

  1. This sounds like a fun day out! I've never heard of a Plant Nite before. I wonder if they have one near me.
