New York International Auto Show : Camp Jeep Experience Promises Fun for All

Monday, April 1, 2024
Spring is here and that means it's time for the New York International Auto Show at the Javits Center in New York City. I attended the show many times as a child and have fond memories of seeing so many amazing cars with my father and sister. I've also attended numerous times as an adult, and still find myself mesmerized by all of the shiny new cars, trucks, SUVs, exotic cars, and concept vehicles of the future. You don't need to be an auto lover to attend, and there's certainly something for everyone to enjoy. One of the best events at the show is the CAMP JEEP Experience. You won't want to miss it! Read on for more details!

Disclosure: I attended a press preview of the New York International Auto Show but all opinions are my own.

The auto show is easy to get to via mass transit in New York City, as well as the New York Waterway Ferry from New Jersey (it's just a hop, skip and a jump away! Read more about that in my tips section below).

About the Camp Jeep Experience

Since the debut of Camp Jeep in 2004 in New York, more than 3.05 million people have experienced the interactive off-road experience at over 190 events in the U.S. Now, Camp Jeep is celebrating its 20th anniversary at the New York Auto Show! I had a chance to try it myself and it was a blast. Don't worry, you'll be placed with an experienced driver who will tell you all about the Jeep you're riding in, and what features the Jeep has that helps it navigate the terrain you're riding on. Even if you've experienced off-roading before, this is still a thrill. It was quite an amazing experience to drive up so high next to the buildings of New York. A DJ was playing some great tunes and the Jeep staff was excited and happy. Such a fun time!!

The 28,000-square-foot outdoor exhibit at this year's New York International Auto Show gives consumers a firsthand look at the Trail Rated capability standards engineered into Jeep vehicles for ground clearance, traction, stability, articulation, breakover, off-camber and suspension. The fan-favorite, 28-foot-high Jeep Mountain, with 45-degree approach and departure angles, is the tallest and steepest at any auto show.

And off-road test drives will be given in the following Jeep vehicles:
  • 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
  • 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe
  • 2024 Jeep Wrangler 392
  • 2024 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee L Summit
Since its debut in 2004 in New York, Camp Jeep has been a huge draw at the New York International Auto Show, giving more than 501,000 test track rides in all the newest Jeep 4x4s. Overall, more than 3.45 million people have experienced Camp Jeep at more than 190 events in the U.S.

Camp Jeep is located outside of the Jacob Javits Convention Center and is free to the public from March 29 – April 7. The track will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., except for Sunday, April 7 when the hours will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Jersey Momma Tips and Suggestions for Visiting New York Auto Show and Camp Jeep

-Wear good walking shoes. The Javits Center is pretty big and there is a lot to see.
-FYI you can sit inside many of the vehicles on display. I know many people asked about this post-pandemic and most of the cars on display will be available for attendees to sit in (this doesn't mean all of them, but most/many!)
-Camp Jeep is a popular attraction every year at the show so try to get there early. You might have to wait in line but the experience is worth it!
-Camp Jeep was thrilling but not SCARY. I am usually a big chicken but I felt safe with our drivers and it was really a lot of fun.
-Food is available to purchase at the show but it can be pricey.
-Getting to the show from NJ is easy! Take the NY Waterway from Port Imperial in Weehawken. The Auto Show and NY Waterway are partnering to offer reduced-price admission for ferry riders
as part of a special Ferry/Auto Show Combo Ticket. The Combo Ticket includes round-trip ferry rides from Port Imperial/Weehawken to Midtown/W.39th St. and reduced admission to the Auto Show. NY Waterway provides free shuttle service from its Midtown Ferry Terminal directly to the Javits Center main entrance, which is also just a short walk away. Riders can purchase Combo Tickets online (only) and redeem their mobile or paper voucher at the Port Imperial Ferry Terminal for round trip ferry tickets. The discount Combo Tickets are $38 for adults and $18 for children (6-12).
