New York International Auto Show : Camp Jeep Experience Promises Fun for All

Wednesday, April 5, 2023
Spring is here and that means it's time for the New York International Auto Show at the Javits Center in New York City. I attended the show many times as a child and have fond memories of seeing so many amazing cars with my father and sister. I've also attended numerous times as an adult, and still found myself delighted by all of the shiny new cars, trucks, SUVs, exotic cars, and concept vehicles of the future. You don't need to be an auto lover to attend, and there's certainly something for everyone to enjoy. One of the best events at the show is the CAMP JEEP Experience. You won't want to miss it! Read on for more details!

Disclosure: I attended a press preview of the New York International Auto Show but all opinions are my own.

About the Camp Jeep Experience

Since the debut of Camp Jeep in 2004 in New York, more than 3.05 million people have experienced the interactive off-road experience at over 190 events in the U.S. Now, Camp Jeep is celebrating its 19th anniversary at the New York Auto Show! I had a chance to try it myself and it was a blast. Don't worry, you'll be placed with an experienced driver who will tell you all about the Jeep you're riding in, and what features the Jeep has that helps it navigate the terrain you're riding on. Even if you've experienced off-roading before, this is still a thrill. It was quite an amazing experience to drive up so high next to the buildings of New York. A DJ was playing some great tunes and the Jeep staff was excited and happy. Such a fun time!!

Since 2004, Camp Jeep has provided over 468,000 test rides at the New York Auto Show. For 2023, Camp Jeep will offer:

  • Mountain that is 28 feet tall with a 40-degree hill (Ascent / Descent)
  • Ground Clearance Stair Climber
  • Extreme Break-over
  • Off-Camber
  • 30-degree banked wedge
And off-road test drives will be given in the following Jeep vehicles:

  • Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
  • Jeep Wrangler 4xe
  • Jeep Wrangler 392
  • Jeep Gladiator Rubicon
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee L Summit

And just to give you some course construction facts about the Camp Jeep Experience; it's a 20,000-square foot exhibit featuring 220,000 lbs. of freight (14 truckloads), 20 cubic yards of dirt, 20 cubic yards of hardwood mulch,10 tons of boulders, and 12 pine trees ranging from to 16 feet!

Camp Jeep is open to the public, free of charge, during the 2023 New York Auto Show
from Friday, April 7th-Sunday, April 16th. Attendees who ride on the Camp Jeep track will each receive a free Jeep tote bag (as quantities remain).  They anticipate over 30,000 people will ride on the track during the show!

Jersey Momma Tips and Suggestions for Visiting New York Auto Show and Camp Jeep

-Wear good walking shoes. The Javits Center is pretty big and there is a lot to see.
-FYI you can sit inside many of the vehicles on display. I know many people asked about this post-pandemic and most of the cars on display will be available for attendees to sit in (this doesn't mean all of them, but most/many!)
-Camp Jeep is a popular attraction every year at the show so try to get there early. You might have to wait in line but the experience is worth it!
-Camp Jeep was thrilling but not SCARY. I am usually a big chicken but I felt safe with our drivers and it was really a lot of fun.
-Food is available to purchase at the show but it can be pricey.
-Getting to the show from NJ is easy! Take the NY Waterway from Port Imperial in Weehawken. They even offer combo tickets. A round trip adult ticket on the Port Imperial ferry is $18, so the combo ticket is a good deal!
