About the Film

This holiday season, the new chapter in Illumination’s smash animated franchise arrives with big dreams and spectacular hit songs as the ever-optimistic koala, Buster Moon, and his all-star cast of performers prepare to launch their most dazzling stage extravaganza yet …all in the glittering entertainment capital of the world. There’s just one hitch: They first have to persuade the world’s most reclusive rock star—played by global music icon Bono, in his animated film debut—to join them.

The next chapter in the blockbuster series from returning writer/director Garth Jennings welcomes back Academy Award® winners Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon, alongside Scarlett Johansson, Taron Egerton, Nick Kroll and Tori Kelly. Sing 2 is produced by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri and his longtime producing partner Janet Healy.

The Jersey Momma's Spoiler-Free Review of Sing 2

I hate spoilers just as much as the next person so you won't find them here. I was able to catch an advanced screening of Sing 2 and I loved it! It's filled with amazing, upbeat music and a heartwarming plot. The cast is top notch (so much talent!!) and the addition of U2's Bono sure made this momma happy. The U2 songs in the film gave me chills (did you watch the trailer? You'll see!). I saw Bono and U2 perform live on stage in the 1980's and 1990's, so I found myself feeling surprisingly nostalgic during this film, which is something I really hadn't expected. And of course, there were so many additional songs I wanted to download after watching the film, not just the U2 covers!

From the moment Sing 2 started it had me bouncing in my seat, and there is something to love about every character. Each one has their moment to shine in the film and show what they can do and what they’ve learned (and I was giddily applauding all of them!). But what I really loved about Sing 2 was the story. Sing 2 reminds us about perseverance, and not giving up when someone tells you you’re not good enough. I also love that Buster Moon has kind of a “we can do this” mentality, regardless of the obstacles that face him (or lack of a plan!). There’s also a bit of an underlying message about dealing with loss and adapting to change, which we all can certainly appreciate. I found myself really choked up during certain scenes, especially the end. And finally, I have to add that Sing 2 will look amazing on the big screen. From the moment it begins, it's like a Broadway production - the epic intro does not disappoint.

This really is a film for the whole family (teens and parents, too!) and it's finally something that will leave you feeling happy and bouncing out of the theater. We all need a little Sing 2 in our lives these days, don't you think?
