Easy Oreo Penguin Cookies for Valentine's Day!

I didn't plan my Valentine's Day dessert menu very well this year. Valentine's Day is only a few days away and I don't have the energy to whip up a cool cake or cupcakes at the last minute. But these simple Oreo penguin cookies were easy enough, and they sure do look cute on a plate!

Here's what you'll need for your Oreo Penguins:

-Oreo Double Stuff cookies (you can try using the original kind but the double stuff gives you more cream to work with- double, in fact)
-a sharp knife
-candy eyes
-sprinkles or Valentine heart candies
-orange Starburst or Sour Patch kids (any chewy orange candy will do)

The amount you'll need of each item above depends on how many penguins you want to make, so just adjust accordingly.

1. Start by separating your Oreo cookie (just pull it carefully apart). Use your knife to scrape the cream off the top half of the cookie. Set it aside (don't eat it! You'll need it for later. I read your mind, right?).

2. Score the wings with your knife (on the cream-free cookie). You can make them any shape you want (I kind of made a K shape in the cookie so you can see what I wanted my wings to look like). Then carefully cut the score lines in a sawing motion so you don't crack the cookie accidentally.

3. Now press the wings into the cream on the sides of the other cookie. Use your leftover cream from the top of the cookie and smear a small dab for the candy eyes to fit on. Cut your orange candy for the beak and press that into the cream, too.  I tried  using an orange Tic Tac at first, but I didn't like how it looked so I cut an orange Sour Patch Kid instead (I did all of this with my knife).

4. Cut more orange candy into tiny triangles for feet, and press them into the bottom of the cream. Press the candy eyes into the cream above the beak, too.

If you have sprinkles or candy hearts, you can add those wherever you like. You can easily smear extra cream onto your cookie anywhere you want with the tip of your knife, so go for it!

You can use the tip of your knife at any time to scrape off any cream or crumbs to 'clean up' your penguin, too. I wasn't really going for beauty, here, just entertainment, so I didn't mind if they looked a little messy.

It took me less than 30 minutes to make these, and there were plenty of leftover pieces for me to consume while I was assembling them. Always an added bonus!

Happy Valentine's Day!
