DIY: Nutter Butter Ice Cream Cone Cookies

Sunday, June 25, 2023
If you're looking for a fun dessert to bring to a barbecue but can't spend hours in the kitchen baking up treats from scratch, The Nutter Butter Ice Cream Cone Cookie is a sure hit!

These cookies are great for birthday parties and events. If you're worried about allergies, these can be made with any cookie, really. I have seen different versions made with Milano cookies or other cookies  with a similar shape.

You Will Need:

-1 package of Nutter Butter sandwich cookies
-1 container of vanilla frosting (I used Pillsbury fluffy white). You can also use strawberry or chocolate.
-sprinkles of your choice
-red or pink m&m's (you can also use Skittles)
-wax paper or parchment paper (optional)
1. Start by spreading out some wax paper (or parchment paper). You'll need this to dry your cookies. They take a few hours to harden up, so if you plan on bringing these to a picnic or party, I recommend making them the day before or the morning of so they have time to set.

2. Using a small frosting spatula or butter knife, 'paint' the top of each Nutter Butter cookie. I recommend just frosting one side of the cookie (you can do the back of the cookie too but it can get very soggy after a few hours and the top of the cookie might break off completely, so one side should do it). *You can also dip the top of the cookie in the frosting instead of spreading with a spatula, but you cleaner look by spreading it yourself.

3. Sprinkle with a few sprinkles and top with your m&m. Place it on the wax paper to dry. The frosting won't harden completely, but it should dry enough for you to put the cookies on a nice plate without them all sticking together.

JERSEY MOMMA TIPS:

-I actually had a whole package of red m&m's that someone had given me from their trip to the m&m's store in Vegas.  If you're not as fortunate as me, you'll just have to pick all the red ones out of a regular pack of m&m's!  No biggie, right?  That's actually a good job for the little ones.

-You can also use melted white chocolate instead of the frosting.  Some people find the frosting too sweet.  I find melting the white chocolate to be too time consuming, and it's not usually something I have in my pantry. But to each his own!

-If your frosting is too thick to spread, you can actually put the entire container of frosting in the microwave for 5 second intervals (remove any foil wrapping first). Remove from microwave and stir until you get the right consistency (it shouldn't be watery, just soft enough to spread).

- Remember these are NUTTER Butter cookies, so if  you're taking them to a picnic or party, be sure your host/hostess knows that the treats are NOT nut-free!

  1. Love these! They are so adorable! I also love the fact that you used frosting instead of white chocolate. I'm not a huge fan of white chocolate-and those melting candies-yuck!! My daughter and I will definitely have to try this!!

  3. It looks so delicious and irresistibly cute. Its perfect for parties. I liked the idea of using white chocolate as well (love frosting but ya I find them little sweeter than white chocolate ). Putting an M&M is such a gr8 idea. These cookies look like yo wear white hats :) with a red pom pom at the end.
